Round 14: Cork International Film Festival

Our 14th round of Out of Frame is an official collaboration with the 69th edition of Cork International Film Festival​. This month's  film talk introduces filmmakers featured with their short films in the Irish Shorts - Pure Cork​ programme of the festival, screening the same day, 10th Nov, 2pm at The Everyman.

Shannon Haly
 

Shannon is an LGBTQ+ Neurodivergent Actor, Writer, Director and Producer from Cork, Ireland.
Post her studies at The Stella Adler Studio of Acting in NYC, she has worked across Theatre/Film in exciting new works. a She was recently awarded Breakthrough Artist of the Year at Origin Theatre’s First Irish Festival in NYC for her work. She can be seen on HULU’s Television Series ‘We Were The Lucky Ones’ that premiered in March of this year.  In 2022, she her film ‘Burnout’ Premiered on SuperWrong Magazine featuring the acclaimed Ebinum Brothers. Earlier this year Shannon produced/wrote and starred in a queer short film called ‘Dollar Baby’s' co-produced by Remi Alfallah (Imagine Entertainment) and has proudly directed ‘Breakfast Roll’ which was written by and stars her sister, Megan Haly and created under the Actor as Creator programme, supported by Screen Ireland and Bow Street Academy. Both ‘Dollar Baby’s' and 'Breakfast Roll' will be premiering at Cork International Film Festival 2024. Most recently, she has just written, produced and starred in CORTISOL, a play she co created with her sister Megan which just had two sold out runs in both Dublin and Cork, Directed by Jeda de Brí.

Megan Haly
 

Megan Haly is a Director, Actor & Writer from Cork, a graduate of the BA in Theatre and Drama Studies, MTU Cork School of Music and a member of The National Youth Theatre, London. This year she wrote, produced and starred in a short film Breakfast Roll that is part of the Actor as Creator Scheme supported by Screen Ireland & Bow Street Academy. She co-directed Dollar Baby’s a queer short film written by her sister Shannon. Both short films are premiering at Cork International Film Festival 2024. Megan has just written, co-produced and starred in Cortisol alongside her sister Shannon. Cortisol premiered at Dublin Fringe Festival at Smock Alley Theatre to a sold-out audience and was nominated for the Solas Nua New Voices Award. The show then enjoyed a successful, sold-out run at Cork Arts Theatre. Other acting credits include, Swing Bout, Feature Film, (premiered at DIFF 2024) and We Live in Time, Feature Film, directed by John Crowley for A24. Daughter of God, Play, produced by Once Off Productions and Asylum Productions).

Jack & Cian Desmond
 

Jack and Cian Desmond are twin brothers and filmmakers from West Cork. They run a small film & TV production company, @desmondbros, spanning fiction, TV, and documentary. They often work in the Irish language. Their films include "Cluiche As Baile", a feature documentary about GAA in Europe commissioned by TG4, and the short film "Setanta agus Jim Cullen", which is having its world premiere at the Cork International Film Festival. Upcoming work include "Mamó agus Mise", a short film commissioned by TG4.

Aoise is a visionary filmmaker, photographer, artist and multidimensional medicine weaver with over 15 years of experience in the visual and healing arts. Aoise’s journey has led her through meditation, dance, singing, yoga and embodiment practices, which all inform her Artistic practice. Aoise's desire to interpret the human struggle is integral to her work which often weaves the poetry of everyday life with the mystical. Many of her films draw heavily on nature to explore ways of reconnecting to forgotten ways of life and she has worked extensively with mental health themes and the importance of ‘Listening’. Aoise’s unique voice and ability to connect with audiences make her a standout talent in the documentary/experimental filmmaking landscape of Ireland. Through her Transformational Photography, Aoise guides her clients on profound journeys around visibility, using the lens as a tool for empowerment. She is the creator of ‘Dance A Day’ a daily embodiment journey/movement and co-founder of ‘Wild Beings’ a movement to rewild and return people to their most authentic and naked nature.  She is dedicated to walking the beauty way, always returning to love to guide her.
